Natures Soap from the Himalayan foothills.

Recently, I have found a wonderful alternative to chemically loaded products to use as a base for laundry detergents, soap, shampoo, etc.

I have personally tested it and found it does just as good of a job as the laundry detergents (liquid or powders) that you buy in the shops at a much lower price tag.

Once you have 'Soapnuts' you can also use them to make a spray cleanser, liquid/foaming soap for personal care/shampoo etc.

They come at a much cheaper price tag than the liquid and powdered detergents in the shops and are a much gentler, more eco friendly alternative to your skin, house hold cleansing and clothes washing.

They may not lather like the shop bought alternatives but they do have cleaning power!    Soapnuts are a very economical way to wash your laundry as you can re-use them for 4-6 washes.

To use:

Place 4 - 6 nuts in a cotton bag, depending on wash load size and dirtiness - cloth bag provided free with purchase.

If you like to wash in cold water, soak your bag in a cup of hot water for 3 - 5 mins then pour into washing machine.

Re-use this made up bag for 4 - 6 washes.

After this throw the used nuts on the garden for mulch or add to compost.

The water from the washing machine can also be used to water plants (if you can save it) as there is nothing harmful in natural Soapnuts.

You can get the foamy/lathery type consistency by making up the concentrate and placing in foamy bottles.

Smaller quantities:

6 broken shells in 2 cups water - thin consistency, strong cleaning power!  Dilute as necessary.

These Soap nuts/berries have what is called Saponoids in them and are a natural source of them -  like the Soap wort herb. I grow Soap wort in my Herb garden and as pretty as it is, it does not have the amount of Saponoides in it as the'Soap nuts do.

With my personal testing and tweaking so far I have been very happy with the results, anyone that knows me knows I am always on the look out for new, natural, alternative products that will help save our planet, skin, etc.

To make your own liquid soap nut cleanser:

Simmer 100grms of soap nuts in 3 liters of water for an hour.
Strain and decant into bottles,  (foamy bottles are great)
- use instead of any liquid soap or cleanser.

For cleaning products and clothes washing type products that are constantly being used (in this example - using "Soap nut's - you can use two teaspoons of citric acid to prolong the shelf life of your natural 'Soap nut concentrate' .
